Starting Point

The Institute for Creative Research is part of VCUarts Qatar, organised into Labs where faculty and students work together on multidisciplinary projects.

Their goal is ambitious: producing new knowledge through making, writing, interrogating, experimenting and exploring. But for all its output, the ICR had no clear unifying visual identity and no online presence to disseminate that work to the world.

Solution & Impact

We started by going to Qatar and meeting the researchers, students and faculty who are pushing at the limits of what is possible. What emerged from that research was a set of connecting tensions: modernity and tradition, East and West, art and science, craft and technology.

Those tensions became the design system. Visuals built around the idea of looking through different angles, starting with the logo itself. Motion graphics and 3D elements distort perspectives, making the familiar strange in the way good research does.

The result is a strong identity system with a clear visual relationship to the main VCUarts Qatar campus, while standing confidently on its own. The website was custom-built with Three.js elements, matching the institute's ambition in every interaction.
